The Ghana Immigration Service has reaffirmed its working relationship with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology through a courtesy call on the Directorate of Student Affairs.
The visit highlighted the growing need for institutional support for international students on campus.
Deputy Controller of Immigration Fred Amankwa, the new Ashanti Regional Commander, led the delegation. He stated the visit was to formally introduce himself to the Directorate and express gratitude for its continued support.
The GIS team praised KNUST for hosting immigration officers on campus, acknowledging the provision of space and logistical support that enables their work.
The meeting brought together officers from the Ashanti Regional Command and the GIS team stationed on campus, including Superintendent Rebecca Yeboah, Superintendent Caroline A. Dankyi, and DSI Fredricka O. Coleman.
The officers emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration to ensure international students meet immigration requirements and receive proper support throughout their time at the university.
Professor Marian Asantewah Nkansah, Director of Student Affairs, assured the delegation of the Directorate’s unwavering commitment to working with GIS.
She noted that the consistent presence of immigration officers on campus had significantly reduced anxiety among students and facilitated the faster processing of immigration-related issues. She added that this partnership helps maintain order and instills greater confidence in the support systems available to international students at KNUST.
The immigration officers also used the opportunity to raise awareness about the necessity for students to comply with visa conditions and reporting requirements.
They called for more joint sensitization programmes between the Directorate and GIS to further educate students on immigration laws and best practices.
